She was elected as a Fellow of the Association for the Advancement of Artificial Intelligence in 2013 for “significant contributions to natural language understanding and representation, and development of the widely recognized methods for interlingual machine translation”. In 2016 she was elected as a Fellow of the Association for Computational Linguistics.

Head of the Advanced Technology Application Center in the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), where he is in charge of implementing and exploring machine learning techniques for intellectual property applications. He has published over 60 research papers in the field of computational linguistics. He also helped WIPO develop an NMT system, which is now in place and in use in a number of UN agencies and patent offices.

Wendt graduated as Diplom-Informatiker from the University of Hamburg and later focused his efforts on software internationalization within a variety of Microsoft products. He has now founded his own consultancy for customers interested in modernizing their translation processes.

He was part of the original Skype Translator team and have contributed to the Microsoft Translator apps, and Presentation Translator.
