Machine Translation Platform for Smartling

The Custom.MT connector is a specialized bridge that allows you to use advanced machine translation and LLMs directly within your Smartling projects. It works by acting as a central hub. When you request a translation in Smartling, the system routes the content to Custom.MT. From there, Custom.MT applies your pre-set templates, selected engines, and custom prompts before delivering the translated text back to your Smartling workflow.

Localization teams often find that standard MT options are too rigid. Custom.MT provides a single gateway to over 30 different engines and models like GPT-4 or DeepL. This gives your team the freedom to swap models or update prompts in one central place without having to reconfigure every individual project inside Smartling.

Custom.MT is an external MT platform that integrates with Smartling as a service provider. You have access to a library of more than 30 MT and LLM options. This includes the latest versions of industry-standard engines and the most capable large language models. Custom.MT manages all the technical connections and API keys, so your team only needs to manage one single account.

You can upload your corporate glossaries directly into your Custom.MT templates. Our terminology feature enforces your specific brand terms during the machine translation process. This ensures that the translations appearing in Smartling are already compliant with your style guide and technical vocabulary.

Absolutely. If your organization has invested in training a custom MT engine or a fine-tuned model, you can connect it to the Custom.MT Console. Once it is connected, you can add that proprietary model to any template and use it for your translations inside Smartling.

The setup is straightforward. First, you need to have the external MT platform section enabled by Smartling support. Once that is active, you only need your Custom.MT API Key. During setup, make sure the Domain name in Smartling is an exact match to the one in your Custom.MT template to ensure the data routes correctly.

Data security is a core priority for us. Custom.MT does not store your translation data after the process is finished. However, because the system connects to external engines, the handling of your data also follows the specific Data Processing Agreements (DPAs) and privacy terms of the third-party MT or LLM providers you choose to use.
